I'm of two minds about the Diablo Immortal story. On one side, it shows lots of respect for the history of the franchise, picking up right where Diablo II ended and establishing the scene for the events to come when you play Diablo III. You'll learn some more about the civilizations and cities of Sanctuary as well as long-time fans will appreciate cameos from characters like Xul the Necromancer as well as the King Leoric in Tristram.

However, the narrative itself is like a beat-for-beat replay in Diablo II. You'll join a group of woodland rogues, rebuild an legendary team in the desert, battle hostile Shamans in a swamp, or climb a mountain with barbarians -- if players have played Diablo II, you've literally played through all this before. The new story beats can be summarized as "find the Diablo 4 Gold and destroy that MacGuffin" repeated four or five times.
